Standard Liege come into Friday's contest buoyed by a vital win against defending FDA champions Club Brugge last weekend. 

After kicking-off their campaign with a creditable draw at Genk, Marko Bulat′s goal secured an impressive win for Ivan Leko′s side. 

Having finished last season disappointingly in 12th place, Standard will be looking to build on their impressive early-season form which sees them unbeaten in their last five games played (including pre-season friendlies).

Contrastingly, KV Mechelen suffered a painful 4:2 home defeat against Westerlo last weekend after picking up an away draw at Brugge on the opening weekend of the season. 

Besnik Hasi's side have won just one of five games played since the start of July while they lost half of all away games last season. 

A tough match to call, Standard are favourites to collect back-to-back home victories and while Mechelen are unbeaten in their last four matches against the home side, I expect that run to come to an end on Friday. 

I′m backing Standard to edge their way to victory in a likely low-scoring encounter. Four of their last six meetings saw fewer than three goals scored, and a narrow home victory seems the likeliest outcome on Friday.
