What does spread mean in betting
The Dallas Mavericks got another fine performance out of Luka Doncic who recorded another triple-double in Dallas’ game 5 victory over the Thunder. However, it wasn’t all Luka Doncic as a few other players including Derrick Jones Jr. and Kyrie Irving had a strong game. Game 6 tips off in Dallas where the Mavs can close out the series. The winner of this series will move on to the Western Conference finals where they will meet the winner of the game 7 matchup between the Timberwolves and Nuggets.
Dallas enters this contest as a significant favorite. They are listed at 1.60 on the moneyline whereas the Thunder is priced at 2.30. The spread currently sits at between 3.5 and 4.5 depending on which bookmaker you use. The game total is set at 209.5. These odds offer a fair amount of value to bettors on both sides. We here at MightyTips also want to point out a couple of strong trends that you may want to consider wagering on. We’ll get to those in a moment.
Oklahoma City Thunder | Dallas Mavericks | |
---|---|---|
2.30 | 1.60 |
Oklahoma City Thunder [+4] @ 1.86
Dallas Mavericks [-4] @ 1.95
With the 12-point victory in game 5, the Mavericks have now covered the spread in three of its last four games and they are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 overall. Dallas is also 7-2 ATS in its last 9 as a home favorite of 4 or more points. Meanwhile, Oklahoma City is just 3-8 ATS in its last 11 as a road dog of 4 points or fewer.
One of the trends that I alluded to earlier has seen the Under prevail in 4 of the 5 games in this series. Only game 2 in Oklahoma City went over the total and it was just by 2 points. The Under is also 10-3 in Oklahoma City’s last 13 overall.
It’s worth noting that the best NBA betting sites opened the spread at 4 to 4.5 points. A lot of bookies that opened it a 4 have moved it to 3.5 while many bookies that opened at 4.5 have moved it down to 4. This suggests that the early money is on the Thunder to cover. However, Dallas won back the momentum in game 5 with a team effort, and this one has the ingredients for a repeat performance in front of a home crowd.
